About the event
This course provides an introduction to clinical work with neurodiverse gender-nonconforming (NDGNC) youth using a Narrative-based framework. This course utilizes an intersectional, affirming, and non-pathologizing lens to support NDGNC youth, with additional exploration into how ableism, minority stress, and marginalization in society directly impacts NDGNC youth. This course will introduce interventions that can be directly integrated into current clinical practice to help youth externalize problems, reduce shame, and build preferred identities and stories. These clinical practices will prioritize curiosity, accessibility and collaborative care. The course will also review current research regarding the overlap between neurodiversity and gender-nonconforming populations and some of the ways this research has contributed to pathologization of NDGNC youth.
