Meet Our Trainees 

Counseling Practicum Trainees

Our first- and second-year graduate students are training to become therapists. As part of their education, they complete practicum hours with us to learn how to provide trauma-informed, gender-affirming, and queer-informed narrative and liberation psychology approaches to care. These students are in clinical graduate programs and are supervised by licensed mental health professionals who have at least two years of post-licensure experience and special training in supervision. They also get extra support and training through their schools. They provide care at the GHC for 9 - 12 months. 

Associate Clinicians

Associates are people who have finished their master’s degrees in counseling psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy. They’ve met all the requirements to start working toward becoming fully licensed therapists. They’re registered with the state and are now gaining the hours they need to practice on their own in the future. While they do this, they’re supervised by experienced, licensed mental health professionals who have special training in providing clinical supervision and gender affirming counseling care.

Doctoral interns are students working toward completing their PhD or PsyD in clinical, counseling, or school psychology. Before starting their internship, they’ve already completed typically 4 years of training and have done over 500 hours of direct service work. This internship is one of the last steps before they graduate. They are supervised by psychologists and other licensed mental health professionals and provide care for 12 months.
