About the event
This 1.5-hour live virtual introductory course is for mental health professionals working with Two-Spirit, transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people. It focuses on developing emotional safety plans for people experiencing suicidal ideation with intent, access to means, and a plan, especially when preparing for a visit to the emergency room (ER).
The course covers:
An overview of typical hospital processes from entry to discharge
Potential challenges and limitations within hospital environments
Common harmful experiences reported by trans and gender-diverse patients in healthcare settings
Practical strategies for creating identity-affirming, supportive interactions in high-stress settings like the emergency room.
